The site was selected in 1938 to become an Arsenal for the national Air Force Repair Workshops (ARAA) within the framework of a national plan to renew the French aviation industry. Assigned a critical role in the production and renovation of aircraft engines, the site became a centre for the rapid development of new technologies throughout the Second World War, employing up to 3,000 people at its peak.
